Burn Baby, Burn!

I came home last night to find that from my balcony I could see a giant fire was blazing! Although not a great thing to have happened, it made for some beautiful photos!

Cry Baby

I watched Cry Baby by John Waters recently and loved it!!!! Who'd have thought Johnny Depp could sing? Set in the 50's, Cry Baby is about drape gangs and squares, love and music and of cause juvenile delinquency!

I loved the rockabilly vibe to the film. My favourite character was Wanda
I loved everything she wore, and it inspired me to hunt down That Shop where i bought a 50's swing dress and curvy pants!!!

Me & My Peeps

The holidays have just passed and the good times were not short lived!

Photos taken by Edie, who always has her camera <3

Fashion through the lens

Recently (as of the last few months) I have discovered the medium of the fashion film. FARR OUTT MANN! They are all so unbelievably beautiful, displaying the clothing in a story adding another dimension of desire! Everything that happens in these films is so whimsical and innocent, it makes me grin with pure joy! I have decided that for my final year 12 film next year, I will use fashion films as a point of major inspiration! So many talented people in the world!

My favourite one that I have seen so far is 'The curve of forgotten things' for Rodarte which I have already posted below.
'How you look at it' by Poppy de Villeneuve features clothing from Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein and Givenchy. I really like the concept of this film, it has a train and water so I am automatically captivated! I catch the train home everyday and I find it to be the most serene experience as you are left to your own thoughts and listen to your own music while surrounded by a mix of all sorts of interesting people to gaze at, what could be better? From catching the eye of the man across from her, the lead girl takes us through a day dream she experiences. Learning to swim from the man is such a sweet little tale, playing on the idea of a short innocent romance. The one thing that disappointed me in this film was the choice of styling. I didn't think the girl fit the plot, she looked too hostile!

The 'Miss Dior Cherie' commercial directed by Sofia Coppola isn't as in depth as the others along the lines of a story, however I still think it's worth noting because it's so cherry and bright!

I just really like this one!

'Viaggio Notturno' for Bottega Veneta reminds me of 'Mad Men' I like the masculinity of the film

I decided to include this because, although it is not a favourite I think the editing is really groovy and it's all very geometric which is cool. In the words of Kath & Kim, 'It's unusual, it's different, It's nice"

And finally, although overplayed, Chanel's iconic no. 5 is done with such expertise it's hard not to be wowed.

Elle Fanning & Rodarte

Elle Fanning is currently one of my favourite actresses, staring in 'Phoebe in Wonderland' by Daniel Barnz (I'm quite fond of this film) and more recently in Sofia Coppola's (my absolute favourite director) latest film, 'Somewhere' and 'Super 8' by Steven Spielberg. Now, she is considered a style icon, for her   elegant and simplistic style.

This film has got the most beautiful cinematography and is so unique and clever.

Rodarte's latest fashion film, 'The curve of forgotten things' is directed by Todd Cole with the soundtrack composed of original music by deerhunter. The short film displays the latest collection from Rodarte. The film follows Elle Fanning as 'a young girl existing outside of time in a magical place' The film reminds me of how childhood feels and so has a soft, innocent and beautiful air about it, and of cause, the clothes are incredible!!!

My favourite Outfits from the film:

and OH MY GOSH the shoes!!!!

Rineke Dijkstra

From 1992 to 1996, Rineke Dijkstra began a series of work in which her aim was to capture the innocence and dreaminess of pubescent youngsters. The conceptual approach to the artists 'beach portraits' is to photograph the teenagers as she discovers them, this way, nothing is staged. A direct and natural focus towards the camera is done by using a flash during daylight. Dijkstra allows the subjects of her work to choose the pose and expression they wish to convey, this way the audience is presented with  the individuals testimony to themselves of how they wish to be portrayed, an insight into how, they themselves view their image.

This one is my favourite, the colours are so beautiful.

I think her works look like more simplistic re-makes of Botticelli pieces

Well Hello

Well hello there!
This is a blog to do with all the things I love. As I am a terribly forgetful person I am creating this blog as a host to all the films I see, Artists I discover, Fashion I admire and all things in between so I remember them later in life as a point of inspiration for my own work.
Hope you enjoy.
